Improving the Attractiveness of the City

Some proposals on how to improve the attractiveness of Belfast:

  • Support increased trees on gateway approaches to City centre (e.g. Divis Street)

  • Encourage trees on City Centre streets

  • Encourage mixed use development in City Centre particularly more residential development in City Centre

  • Encourage City Council to apply for Green Flag Civic Trust Awards in relation to City Centre Parks

  • Designation of Street Market Area.

  • Recognise City Centre Conservation Areas and publicise design guides to developers.

  • Support City Council Listing process , listing of significant buildings in the city. This initiative follows a similar process in other UK cities

  • Support initiative re reuse of significant City Centre Heritage/Historic Buildings which are/will be empty

  • Encourage Government/City Council to relocate to empty heritage buildings

  • Support Crumlin Road Jail/Courthouse project as catalyst for reinvigoration of Crumlin Road, North Belfast area

  • Support Crumlin Road/Donegall Street Corridor street environmental enhancements (Area of the City with greater concentration of historic public buildings)
